It is narrated that the author of Dala’il al-Khayrat, Imam Muhammad al-Jazuli (may Allah be pleased with him), was once on a journey. Along the way, he needed water to perform wudu (ritual ablution) before prayer. He found a well but could not reach the water deep below, as there was neither a bucket nor a rope available.

Concerned by the situation, he stood by the well. A young girl noticed his difficulty and came to his aid. She spat into the well, after which the water miraculously rose to the surface by itself.

Amazed by this, Imam al-Jazuli asked her: "How is this possible?" She replied: "Allah has granted me this blessing because of the many salawat (blessings) I send upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ."

When Imam al-Jazuli experienced the great value and blessings in sending salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ, he decided to write Dala’il al-Khayrat. In this work, he compiled a collection of beautiful prayers and invocations of peace and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

Dala’il al-Khayrat is today the most widespread and recognized collection of salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ. It is recited by Muslims worldwide – individually and communally, in homes and mosques, silently as well as aloud.
